Welcome to Generation Gap where we ask you about your favorite generation of a certain multi-generational car nameplate. Then, explain why your choice is right to the rest of us uneducated folks.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The Cadillac Seville was Cadillac’s CTS back in the day, a response to the W115 Benz and the E12 Bimmer. The original car was based on the K-body, a close relative to the Chevy Nova’s X-Platform, and thus it had a FR layout (and was offered with the tragic V8 diesel). By the 2000s, however, it had evolved into a torque-steering beast with a Northstar putting 300 hp through the front axle. While it was never the BMW-competitor GM wanted it to be, the Seville set the stage for the STS and eventual 3rd-gen CTS which puts more credibility into the old slogan, “Standard of the World”. Disregarding that, which Seville would you have chosen?

The options:

First Generation [1976 - 1979]

Those “face lifts” aren’t face lifts, they’re a different trim of the same model. The “fifth gen” however, is the fourth gen’s facelift.

I’ve always wanted to get a 1st gen and put all the go fast goodies I could on it.

Third gen:

Fourth gen is debatable, but fifth gen is definitely a new generation with the move to the G-body platform.

I’ve always liked the second generation - it was the last new car GM launched that Bill Mitchell really had a hand in, and he went kind of wild. A classic example of GM dreadfully misreading market conditions, but one of the purest expressions of Mitchell’s personal tastes and affinity for prewar luxury cars.

Unfortunately, most of them had either the Olds diesel or the Cadillac HT4100, so the engines were mostly crap.

Guilty pleasure - bustleback without the ostentatious trim:

Kinja'd!!!

And the proto-first generation, when the “Seville” badge was used to denote the 56-60 Eldo hardtop coupe:

I have to confess that I actually like all generations of the Seville, even the third generation.

As a concept, they're intriguing. As cars, they're probably rubbish.

I suffer from the Europeam Oppo syndrome. To be honest, I’d love me a comfortable V8 sedan sans FWD though.

I suffer from American Oppo Syndrome. A little French diesel stick shift wagon sounds awesome right now, although I still kind of want something big and American.

Nothing wrong with that.

I think the last STS should count as a Seville, because, well, it is one. STS stands for Seville Touring Sedan.

I mean maybe. But then the CTS would have to be with the Catera, and that's not very close at all...

I voted First-Gen. I posted these two pics as a pick-me-up for G-Body Man a while back:

And why?

I learned to drive in a 1977 Caprice Classic so when I was 16, the first-gen G-bodies were only two years old.

I’d love to restore one and swap the 120-hp 305 for an LS engine.

I agree, land barges are better when they don’t try to be sporty and simply stick with either being comfy or being fast in a straight line.

While I would prefer other luxury cars over this car every single time, the second gen has a charm to it - so if I had to choose I would pick the 2nd Gen.
